Labuschagne Omitted from Australia's One-Day International Lineup to Face Team India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from Australia's three-game ODI series against India, as in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw earning a surprise call-up.

Recent Form Result in Omission

Labuschagne has been omitted from the one-day international team after managing only a single run in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. He has a highest score of 47 in his previous ten ODI innings.

The 31-year-old has featured in 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now continue to press his claims a Test team comeback in time for the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Changes

Labuschagne has shown signs of a improvement in form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw also hit a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his ODI debut in the forthcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a red-ball recall as Australia look for a answer to their top-order woes.

Pace Returns and Injury Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after taking a break since performing well for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen may earn his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he works to regain fitness from a back injury in time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Schedule

Australia have selected a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-match series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 teams after smashing a century in the last match against New Zealand to seal a 2-0 series win last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India starts on 19 October in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from October 29.
