UK light heavyweight Buatsi earned a win yet disappointing debut to life under fresh promotional backing with a decision win over Zach Parker in Manchester.

The Olympic medal winner's punch output appeared to earn him a judges' verdict in a tight ten-round contest at the boxing arena.

But Parker landed significant shots, landing some telling single shots in a match where the approaches never quite clicked, with frequent clinching marring the fight.

The officials judged it 96-94 in favor to the winner, with the remaining official a 95-95 draw.

"It wasn't my greatest display but what do champions do? They win," the victor stated in the arena as he was greeted with negative reactions from the spectators.

The British fighter got back to winning after his initial pro loss - an epic battle with Callum Smith in February - to earn a 20th pro success.

Various analysts felt the challenger, 31, merited the win but the Derbyshire fighter suffered the second loss of his 28-bout career.

Buatsi's progress has stalled in recent years through management issues and long spells of inactivity.

Once tipped as the rising talent of British boxing, he now is positioned trying to achieve expectations - maybe in what appears to be a final roll of the dice - under new promotional backing.

He started carefully, with both competitors willing to overcommit in a calculated early stages.

The challenger, whose only previous defeat came at super-middleweight against John Ryder in 2022 after suffering a hand injury in the contest, was competing in only his second appearance at light heavyweight.

By the fight's midpoint, Parker had made it competitive, causing problems for the favorite, who worked behind a solid defense to narrowly win the more effective stanzas.

The crowd's patience wore thin during constant clinching, with the challenger going down various instances during clinches.

Parker ended stronger, but multiple periods were challenging to assess. Although, former world champion the boxing analyst - providing analysis for the broadcast network - had it significantly in favor for the challenger, scoring for Buatsi just a single round.

The victor advances, but with the likes of heavy hitter David Benavidez, and Russian champion Dmitry Bivol leading the category, the path to championship success - judging by this showing - still looks steep.

Hatton Tribute Fuels All-Manchester Contest

The arena fell silent as an picture of Mancunian Hatton filled the big screen

In the co-main event, Lyndon Arthur defeated Rea by close verdict in a terrific Manchester vs Manchester fight to win the continental title.

The arena fell silent for a extremely emotional homage prior to the bout as ten bells tolled in remembrance of the city's native Hatton, who died at age 46 in recently.

It was the first major televised fight night in the urban center since Hatton's death. As the last bell disappeared, the silence gave way to a shout of "only one Hatton".

The fighting inside the ropes equaled the emotion. Arthur was floored by a powerful punch squarely on the chin in the second round, standing uncertainly to his footing on the count of eight.

But the red-colored shorts of Arthur soon came forward again. On the opposite side, the opponent - in competitive blue - was marked up quickly, heavy swelling appearing under his face as the pair exchanged punishing blows.

Rea, twenty-seven, connected with strong blows but Arthur, 34, matched the intensity with stinging uppercuts as the intensity seldom decreased over twelve rounds.

Arthur barely secured the verdict with official scores of 114-114, 115-113 and wider gap, but both fighters were determined and courageous, exactly what their inspiration Hatton represented.
