Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
